We pre-heat them in the oven for a while to help keep the soup hot when serving guests, but to avoid unpleasant surprises we do not pre-heat the lids ( Lodge Logic L5MIC3 Miniature Lid). Be careful with what you put under these kettles if you pre-heat them, though; placing them straight on a plastic tablecloth may be a bad idea.
