I bought these for a 2 week backpacking trip through Iceland and every single part of my body hurt after that trip except my feet. They are incredibly comfortable with a big toe box and stiff sole to keep the muscles in your feet from overworking when you are carrying a 40 lb. pack. Over snow, mud, ash, volcanic stone, I can assure you no one has tested these shoes in more extreme conditions.That said, they were not made to take this abuse for long. This is where the price tag shows up. They lost their water resistance in about 6 days of straight backpacking. I had to wear plastic bags in my shoes after wards for the rest of the trip. But they still get 4 stars because I beat these shoes into absolute submission and apart from losing water-resistance, they held up beautifully for this trip.
