5.0 out of 5 stars Light, non-stick and nestable!, October 24, 2010

I love this freaking skillet. It is light compared to other skillets/fry pans in its price range. It is hard to believe this 9" skillet weighs 7 oz. The non-stick feature has held up real well. Just make sure to use plastic utensils to prevent scratching while cooking. As soon as you are done cooking with it use a paper towel to clean it and wipe off the skillet. That way when it comes down to washing the skillet you won't be using the abrasive side of the sponge. I really like the way the cooking surface of this skillet is shaped compared to the heavier REI or GSI brand pans. The REI and GSI pans are more concave while the MSR skillet is more of a deep dish. This increases the ability to nest with other items. I usually place anywhere from 2 to 4 plates and place a pack of 8 flour tortillas. I squeeze in a sponge, spatula, bottle of liquid soap, msr packtowl and some frozen Mexican sausage. I had a mesh stuff sack from an old footprint laying around that fit perfectly with the MSR... 5.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother with titanium, August 11, 2011

We needed a skillet to take with us on a backpacking trip. Since most of our cooking stuff is titanium, I checked those styles out first. What I found out from the reviews is that Ti has horrible heat dispersion. Great for boiling water, or any food that has a lot of liquid, but bad for things like eggs, fish, steak, etc. The MSR Flex Skillet was a perfect balance between weight and functionality. The heat dispersion was fairly even and it is just a little bit heavier than the Ti models. A good purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars my favorite skillet, August 25, 2011

I'm a bit of a design geek, and the handle on this thing is amazing. I'm used to using pot grabbers when backpacking, so a handle that folds over, latches in its extended position, and comes off easily if desired is SO nice to have! My compliments to whoever created it.

I bought this a couple weeks ago, and it served me and my friends very well on our recent backpacking trip. It has good heat distribution and the non-stick coating works great - perfect for pancakes! The coating already has a couple scratches thanks to people piling other dishes in it without thinking (and probably some beach sand as well), but it should do fine if we're a little more careful next time. I wish it didn't scratch quite that easily, though.
